Q: what colors do they come in

A: Black and Tan - black with bright tan marks above eyes, head, chest, legs, underside of tail; white marks undesirable. Ruby - Rich red; white markings undesirable. Blenheim - Chestnut markings, well broken up, on white ground; markings evenly divided on head, lozenge between ears. Tricolor - black and white, well spaced and broken up, with tan markings overhead, inside legs, on underside of tail.

Q: How Big do they get?

A: AKC Standards are between 12-18 lbs up to 13" at the Shoulder. Although classified as a Toy Breed, Cavaliers are not Toy like in personality or size. Their personalities and dispositions compare more with a Boxer: people/childrew friendly and people pleasers.  Their size & weight, even when only 15 lbs, out-weighs most other Toy Breeds.

Q:  What is their life expectancy?

A: Averages at 9-11 years but many live into their teens.

Q:    How easy are they to train?

A: They want to please you most of all which makes then generally very easy to train.  This breed is highly intelligent which is also a plus for training! Cavaliers Enjoy anything as long as they are doing it with you, obedience training Included.

Q:   What do I need for a new puppy?

A: A few essentials, like a leash, brush, collar, name tag, soft bed, feeding dishes and don't forget, some safe puppy toys!

Grooming Needs: Bathing, Brushing and Nail Clipping are about all there is to meeting your Cavalier's Grooming needs.

Proper Ear Care is very important.  Ears need to be dried well after baths or swimming, or the moistness can become a breeding ground for yeast and other infections.

Health Issues:

What is Mitral Valve Disease? (MVD) A common disorder where there is partial regurgitation of blood through the valve.  With mitral regurgitation the blood leaks into the heart.  Gradually the valve leak worsens and the heart slowly enlarges.  If the leak becomes severe, blood can start to back up behind the heart and sometimes even into the lungs.  This can lead to congestive heart failure.  Early detection of this disease can be treated.  Routine vet checks is the best way to insures your Cavaliers health.
